On first read, without getting down into the specifics of the two plaintiff cases cited, it sounds like still more of "Children simply don't know what they're talking about, so what they say about their own selves should be discounted, because they might have been coached by someone." Which is to say, all supposition, unsupported by demonstrable facts.  In the meantime, every trans child's biological clock is ticking.  YES, no one disagrees that changing one's gender is serious business. But trans children should not be denied useful hormone-blocking therapy based on vague and subjective supposition. Rather, they deserve thoughtful consideration and realistic assistance in addressing and resolving any gender issues or concerns. Â

Indeed - society can’t afford to discount the opinions of individuals who will be far better off in the future for having made such decisions earlier rather than later. We just need to be sure that the structures and expertise are in place to be as sure as possible that the decisions being made are proportionate to any symptoms felt as opposed to the symptoms being (for example) the types of interests that many members of this forum often claim to have had when younger.
