Ballet Boys Article - Conway - 11-26-2018

The NY Times today had an interesting story on two boys who play the prince in the NYC Ballet's "Nutcracker". Both are 11.

Of course both wear sweatpants to ballet class, and the interviews are quite serious.

But the costume - a pink suit with blouse and breeches - seemingly requires tights, and there is no denying that one of the boys has a very feminine haircut. The photos show them both dancing with some very talented young women who are - based on their posture and facial expressions - definitely in charge.

It would be interesting if one of them followed Chase Johnsey's example and began seeking female roles as a ballerina.

I so enjoyed reading that article. Means we are heading in the right direction. Seeking female roles is very important now. Makes him feeling very dainty and soft. Learning what femininity is all about

Here is the original article. At least one of the boys looks like he ditched the frumpy sweatpants and cotton tee for a bodysuit and tights. As George Ballanchine said "Ballet is woman", so perhaps he feels it a bit more than his colleagues.

I'd have to disagree with those who think ballet is feminine, delicate and soft. I've never danced but one (male of female) could hardly endure the physical demands without a serious amount of strength and muscle, as well as grace and fluidity. Kind of reminds me of gymnasts who make it look easy when it's certainly not. Just my 2 cents.

True, there can be some fierce ballet women and men out there. The reality is when it comes to petticoating a mother enrolls her son into ballet and puts him into a tutu and tights. With one goal in mind and that is to make him a complete prissy princess!

Yes Rad Fem... their are many aspects of ballet that require physical dexterity and balance, however the initial impetus for retraining male girls for their proper new roles shall focus on developing the natural feminine grace previously forced upon the Superior Female... then the Female finally empowered, if interested stlll in such dance activity shall assume roles representing and requiring THEIR natural advantage of leadership and strength...

Be it portray the young in their coming sex roles:

Be it adult Females and males:

Be it for didactic comedic entertainment

So whatever the venue -- Female as Superior and Dominant shall be the over-riding instructive image of such art.
