Mackintosh discipline

Dear Helga,

I was delighted to read your letter from Michael in January on mackintosh discipline. It's something I practice on my 14 year old boy even now. Not only does he have an everyday mackintosh (a traditional nylon, button-up style for warmer months, and a gaberdine mackintosh for colder months), but when he proves particularly naughty or resistant to wearing what he's told, he gets put into his sister's old macs.

He particularly doesn't like it when I fetch her old hooded gaberdine out to wear. It's a longer style, and buttons on the girl's side. I make sure I button up his mac to the neck, as one would with a younger child, with the hood pulled over, and the belt fastened tightly. Over this, he wears her old brown nylon mackintosh, also in traditional style.

Both macs come to well below the knees. When worn with his short trousers and grey knee socks, he looks like a sweet little schoolgirl, what with his long blond hair peeking out from under the hood of his gaberdine.

I'd strongly recommend such an approach on any headstrong young boy.

Regards,
Pat

Thank you for your letter Pat. Even such a simple garment can have a very calming effect on young boys.
